How to play Klondike Solitaire
Klondike Solitaire is the card game most people mean when they say solitaire. You build four foundation piles from Ace up to King, one pile per suit, by moving cards between seven columns and the draw pile. Within the columns you stack cards in descending order and alternating colors, such as a red 6 on a black 7.
Only the top card of each column is face-up at the start, so winning depends on uncovering the hidden cards. Not every deal can be won, so a lost game is not always a mistake.
Tips for Klondike Solitaire
- Uncover face-down cards before anything else. Moves that reveal a hidden card are almost always better than moves that do not.
- Do not rush cards to the foundations. A low card left in a column can be the landing spot you need for a card that is otherwise stuck.
- Only move a King into an empty column when you have something to build on it, and prefer the King whose column hides the most cards.
- Check the whole draw pile cycle once before committing, so you know which cards you will see next.
