Cut the Rope: which one to play first
Cut the Rope is a series of physics puzzles about feeding candy to a little green monster named Om Nom. All five games here share the same core move, swiping to cut a rope, but each adds its own twist.
If you have never played any of them, this page will help you choose where to start.
How the series works
In every level a piece of candy hangs from one or more ropes. You swipe across a rope to cut it, and the candy swings and falls. The goal is to get the candy into Om Nom's mouth, and you also try to collect three stars on the way.
The stars are what turn it into a real puzzle. Feeding the monster is usually easy, but collecting all three stars asks you to plan the order of your cuts, and sometimes to delay a cut until the candy is swinging at the right speed.
Which one first
Start with the original Cut the Rope. It introduces each mechanic slowly, so you learn bubbles, spikes and air cushions one at a time without feeling rushed.
If you already know the basics, Cut the Rope 2 or Cut the Rope: Magic add new gadgets and a different look. Time Travel and Experiments are good picks if you want a longer run of levels with a theme.
The five games
Cut The Rope
The original and the best starting point. It teaches the mechanics one at a time.
Cut the Rope 2
The sequel adds new characters and gadgets, so it feels fresh even if you finished the first game.
Cut the Rope Experiments
A lab-themed set of levels where a scientist studies how much candy Om Nom can eat.
Cut the Rope: Magic
Om Nom transforms into magical forms in a fantasy world, and each form changes how levels play.
Cut The Rope: Time Travel
A time-travel theme that takes Om Nom through history, with period-themed gadgets.
Whichever you pick, a good habit is to watch the candy swing once before cutting. Half of all mistakes are cuts made too early.
